New Quilt Pattern: Sonora Star
This one's been in the making for over a year- it's one of those designs that's got so many possibilities that I couldn't help but to have the pattern include 3 different design options. The pattern also comes in 5 sizes including wall hanging, table runner, small throw, lap, and large throw. Click here to shop and see the fabric requirements.
This pattern is for the advanced beginner quilter (meaning you've made a few quilts before) and up. The skill used include half square triangles (HSTs), log cabin style piecing, and square inside a square blocks. You'll also get some practice with sashing and borders.
If you're curious where the name and inspiration for the pattern comes from, it's from my favorite childhood movie, Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken. Have you seen it? It takes place during the 1930's and is heartbreaking and inspirational at the same time. The main character in the movie is named Sonora, and I'd like to think she might keep the scrappy version of Sonora Star on her bed.
About The Cover Quilt
I made the cover quilt about a year ago using prints from Ash Cascade Design's collection for Cotton + Steel called Canyon Springs. The solid is Art Gallery Fabric Solid in Apricot Crepe. The cover quilt is quite bold and features the modern version of Sonora Star, where each star block is the same.
The Fat Quarter Version
The second large throw I made was completed just a few weeks ago; it features the scrappy Sonora Star version, which is Fat Quarter friendly. I always love when a pattern gives me options to use fat quarters, so I felt it was really important to include this option! I went with a softer look for this one; it has a lighter background and scrappy stars for a much different aesthetic. This one was made with prints from Lissie Teehee's collection for Cotton + Steel called Summer Folk. The background is Cotton + Steel basic in Freckles.
Which one do you prefer? Comment below this post to let me know! I'm always so curious to hear!
The 'Single Star' Version
If you're looking for a quick make with high impact, the single star version is for you. I made this one using prints from Sharon Holland's Shine On collection for Art Gallery Fabrics, some Essex Linen in Roasted Pecan, and the background is Art Gallery solid in Forest Night.
