How to Make the Zipper Pouch:
1. Make your Soho Heart block and add boarders; the end measurement should be around 11”x 12.5”
2. Quilt the heart block and backing block with the batting. I did simple straight-line quilting, with lines 1” apart.
3. Attach your zipper pull to the zipper and trim off any uneven zipper teeth.
4. Take the 1.5”x 2.5” piece and fold the wrong sides together so the 1.5” edges are touching, iron to make a crease. Unfold and have the 1.5” edges meet at the middle crease, iron.
5. Insert one end of the zipper into the folded middle, there should be fabric on either side. Top stitch to secure in place. Repeat with the second 1.5”x 2.5” piece and other side of the zipper.
6. Line up your heart block right side up, zipper right side down, and lining fabric right side down. Pin or clip in place along the top edge. Have the zipper centered; it will be about ½” short on either side. Using a zipper foot, stitch ¼” from the top.
7. Turn the layers so that the heart block is facing up, it should be wrong sides together with the lining. Iron. using the zipper foot, topstitch the 2 fabrics together.
8. Take your 11”x 12.5” background fabric (back of the pouch) and place it right side up. Next, line up the zipper set right side down, then the lining fabric right side down. Clip or pin in place and stitch using the zipper foot ¼” from the top.
9. Repeat step 7 with the background fabric.
10. Open the zipper. Match up the lining fabric and outer bag fabric, clip/pin in place. Sew all the way around, leaving 3” open in the lining to turn the project.
11. Mark 1.5” squared in each corner and cut out. Line up the seams and sew across the open edge.
12. Turn the pouch through the hole in the lining. Use your fingers to push out the boxed corners.
13. Close the opening in the lining by matching up the open edges and top stitch as close to the edge as you can.
14. Insert the lining to the bag.
Ta Da! You’re finished!
